20 years of Riad Fes Baraka

RIAD FÈS BARAKA — 20 YEARS OF HISTORY, PASSION AND HOSPITALITY

Twenty years ago, it all began with a deep-seated conviction.

The fact that a place can tell a story.
That a house can carry a soul.
And that hospitality, when it is sincere, becomes an art of living.

In 2003, in the heart of the ancient medina of Fez, a human adventure began.

In the winding streets steeped in history in this city founded in the 7th century, a riad reveals its potential: a vast 300 m² residence, bathed in light, organized around a large central patio.

This is not a simple purchase.
It's a favorite.
An intuition.

The ambition is clear: to breathe new life into this house while deeply respecting the architectural soul of traditional Fassi homes.

For three years, the project took shape with patience, high standards and passion.

Every detail is designed as a tribute to Moroccan heritage.

The master craftsmen of Fez become the guardians of this renaissance:
the zellige tile makers, heirs to an ancestral know-how;
carpenters, wood sculptors;
the masters of gebs, capable of transforming plaster into mineral lace;
the coppersmiths, artisans of hammered metal.

The Riad was not conceived as a hotel.
It was designed as a living home.

A house where each room tells its own story.
Where each space has its own character.
Where the patio becomes the beating heart of the place, enhanced by a swimming pool paved with zellige tiles from Fez.

This adventure would not have had the same soul without an essential encounter: that of Madame Ben Hamou, an architect deeply attached to the identity of Fez, a true Fassie, heir to a history marked by the Andalusian influences that have enriched the city over the centuries.

But in reality, the story of Riad Fès Baraka begins long before its walls.

It was born from a deep love for Morocco.

A country traversed from north to south.
Loved for her beauty.
But above all, for its inhabitants.
Their generosity.
Their gentleness.
Their rare sense of hospitality.

In 2006, the Riad Fès Baraka opened its doors.

At that time, Fez was still a relatively unknown destination for international tourism.
Marrakech and Essaouira already embody the riad experience.
Fez, however, retains its mystery.

Making that choice was almost a gamble.

But above all, it was obvious.

Create a place on a human scale.
Preserving the privacy of a guest house.
To offer a warm and family-friendly atmosphere.
And to allow travelers to discover Moroccan culture not as visitors…
but like guests.

With a simple ambition:
to offer a setting worthy of the Arabian Nights, without ever betraying the authenticity of the place.

For twenty years, travelers from all over the world have passed through this door.

They arrived as customers.
Many left with souvenirs.
Some returned like friends.

Because Riad Fès Baraka is not just a place to stay.

It's a place where we share.
Where we slow down.
Where you can listen to Fez breathing.
Where we discover another way of receiving.

And perhaps that is the true meaning of Baraka .

A blessing.
A grace.
An invisible energy that transforms a house into a refuge.

Twenty years later, the spirit remains intact.

The same love of detail.
The same respect for traditions.
The same willingness to welcome with sincerity.

Some houses provide accommodation.

Others leave a mark.

For twenty years, the Riad Fès Baraka has been writing its history with those who enter it.
